[57] Abstract: A measurement system for detecting an identifier assigned to a vehicle as it passes through a measurement cross section of a roadThe invention relates to a measurement system (10) for detecting an identification number (N) assigned to a vehicle (V) as it passes through a measurement cross section (MCS) of a road (R). It comprises a first video camera (11) for recording video images of the measurement cross section (MCS), which is disposed and aligned such that, on the video images recorded, a first identification number plate (NPF) of the vehicle (V) representing the identification number (N) is shown. According to the invention a second video camera (12) for recording video images of the measurement cross section (MCS), is disposed and aligned such that, on the video images recorded, a second identification number plate (NPF) of the vehicle (V) representing the identification number (N) is shown. The measurement system further comprises an image evaluation system which is embodied to determine a first character sequence from the recorded video images of the first identification number plate (NPF), to determine a second character sequence from the recorded video images of the second identification number plate (NPR) and to determine, on the basis of the first and second character sequence the identification number (N) to be assigned to the passing vehicle (V). This provides a measurement system (10) with which the detection of an identification assigned to a vehicle on its passage through a measurement cross section of road is improved.FIG. 1
