[57] Abstract: An illustration and description are provided of an apparatus for closing a composite package (P) filled with incompressible liquid contents and comprising a cylindrical sleeve, wherein the apparatus can be operated in clocked operation and comprises a plurality of processing stations (1, 6, 7, 8, 9) arranged one after the other, of which one processing station (8) has a pressing device (12), by means of which the fold protrusions (11) arising during closing can be pressed against the base area of the package (P), wherein the pressing device (12) is essentially arranged to move perpendicularly against the base area. In order to ensure a secure and stable join of the fold protrusions (11) forming a section of the package base to the package base and also reliably prevent damage to individual laminate layers of the composite package, according to the invention provision is made for the pressing device (12) to have at least one damping device (18, 18’) or at least one damping element (18’). The invention also relates to the use of the abovementioned apparatus for packaging of foodstuffs, in particular aseptically filled foodstuffs.
