[54] A MELT POLYMERIZATION PROCESS AND THE POLYCARBONATE PREPARED THEREFROM
[57] Abstract: In an embodiment, a process of melt polymerizing polycarbonate, comprises forming a catalyst mixture in a mixing unit, wherein the catalyst mixture comprises a dihydroxy compound, a carbonate compound, and a monomer stage catalyst, wherein the monomer stage catalyst comprises one or both of a quaternary ammonium compound and a quaternary phosphonium compound other than tetraphenyl phosphonium phenoxide and tetraphenyl phosphonium acetate; adding the catalyst mixture to an oligomerization unit to form an oligomer; and adding the oligomer to a polymerization unit to form the polycarbonate, wherein a second catalyst is present in the oligomerization unit, wherein the second catalyst comprises one or both of tetraphenyl phosphonium phenoxide and tetraphenyl phosphonium acetate.
